A
few of my neighbors and my husband and I started the co-op in 1999 because
we wanted a way to buy organic foods, and to stop buying genetically modified
products and factory farmed animal foods. We place an order with United
Natural Foods Inc every four weeks. My husband Greg drives his forklift
to unload the truck.
This is Anne Mason (on the left)
and me, K Williams. Anne is a regular in helping me organize the
order. If you make an order, you are responsible to show up on the
set pick-up day, or make an arrangement with me otherwise. Place
your order with me, (Kaye) before the deadline,
either by phone (270-433-7400) or email
or snail mail. My preference is phone for your first order, so that
we can make sure we are talking about the same thing. I will take
your name and address and phone number so that I can register you as a
member when I take your first order.
Since many items are available only
by case or in large quantity, we split cases if enough people are interested.
If you want to split a case, make sure to get your splits suggestion (including
item number) to me before 5 on Tuesday evening. We have a potluck
dinner (splits meeting) that evening before the ordering deadline.
If you are coming with food try to bring organic and/or locally produced
food.
Here is Pat Ritter at the splits
board,
recording people's bids on split
items.
Once we place the group order, it
will be about a week before we receive delivery. I will send you
a copy of your invoice via email as soon as I can download it from United,
on Wednesday before the order is received. On your invoice you will
see what is coming on the truck and what is out of stock. If your
invoice shows zero in the price column next to an item, that means it will
not be on the truck.
Regularly co-op day (when you pick
up your order) is on Friday, 10 days after we ordered. We are able to
take food stamps for eligible items. Your job will be to show
up between 10 am and 4 pm, (or let me know if you need another time to
pickup) check your items against your invoice to make sure you get everything
and you get the right things, and you can retrieve your frozen or refrigerated
items from the coolers. Sometimes they ship the wrong thing with
the right sticker, so look at the item, not just the sticker.
United Natural Foods, Inc is our
whole sale source, in addition to a few smaller sources. Foodlink
is a computer program that they supply to compile the order and send.
You can also install Foodlink on your home computer and use it to send
your order to me. Foodlink contains a searchable pricelist that you
can refresh every month. Paper catalogs are available by subscription,
show monthly sales and new products, and are 12 dollars per year.
The price you will be charged on
your invoice will be catalog price, plus ten percent which pays expenses
etc. If you've shopped Wild Oats or the other big natural foods stores,
you will notice we can give lower prices on the same products. We
are also doing a local currency rebate program which gives you back 13
percent on your non-sale ordered items. The local currency coupons
are redeemable at the co-op for locally produced items or by anyone who
is participating in that program.
The catalog (or Foodlink) will give
you the item number, which is what I am listening for when you place your
order. Co-op day happens every fourth Thursday. In season,
we have fresh produce available on that day. The "open" hours are
ten to four. If you need to you can make an appointment with me to
come at a different time.
The co-op building is off of highway
61, (Celina Road) 2 miles south of Burkesville. You can't see the
building till you start down the driveway. 1865 Celina Road is on
the mailbox.
Please let me know if you have any
more questions.

Kaye Williams
