Chapter Six - One Experiment INTENTIONAL AMERICA How can we go about engineering our lives such that are our true human needs are being met? Though government intrusion may not prevent us now from exercising our Human Rights, economics and logistics apparently act to do so. How can we act to affect physical and economic reality such that our truly human needs are being met? Can we use Law to create the establishment of Justice? We can start by acknowledging that true Laws are never invented by the observant mind. True Laws are discovered, being actual features inherent in the real Universe. When we pass "laws" in our houses of government we should not pretend we are creating laws in the strict sense of the word. In our houses of government we draft rules, never Laws. Designing and adopting rules is a sensible behavior if we understand that useful and effective rules are routines of behavior that people choose, expecting that said behavior will bring about a desired result. Rules make sense in the context of some stated "game," the desired end being the "object of the game." Using the model of rules as components of an overall game, we can think again about what it is to be a nation. It could be useful to think of a nation as a game. The geographic boundaries define the playing field and the citizens are players of that game. Suppose a new nation were formed, stating that the goal of the nation was to express positive Justice in the world of Human Being. This positive Justice is continual movement toward increased safety for each citizen, safety both from personal assault and from the threat of a planetary disaster. Would you choose to be a citizen? Suppose a new game were set up with the stated object of the game to create health and safety for all players, and the planet in which we all live. Would you choose to be a player? It would be of no benefit whatsoever to challenge or to leave the existing United States in the forming of this new nation or game. For it is exactly the United States Constitution and Bill of Rights that form the foundation rules of the game. The game is Intentional America. It involves taking seriously the commitment of our national Constitution and all that it entails. It involves bringing the standard of real, applied human rights into every detail of our immediate lives, exchanging a dysfunctional way of life for something sustainable, healthy and true. There is no "overthrowing" to be done in Intentional America, except the overthrowing of the lies we have been harboring in ourselves. And, the overthrowing of the disease of inhumanity in ourselves and our families, in our nation and in our entire world. Games can be played within games. A new nation can form here within this existing nation if we declare the boundaries of our playing fields to be the property lines surrounding our homes. Being of a new nation within these United States is exactly what our Constitution has made room for. Within the parameters set up by the existing United States Constitution, we can set up a definitive formula for the ongoing experiment in basic human rights. Are you ready for positive change? Suppose we establish true Justice . . . where the measure is of positive change. In so doing, shall we not accomplish also the following? ". . . form a more perfect Union, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defence, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity."The Game of Intentional America is an experiment to test the hypotheses referred to in our Bill of Rights. As engineers, let's state one hypothesis plainly.
